| Top 10 Battery Saving Tips For Your Laptop Posted: 22 Jan 2012 08:27 PM PST Tablets and huge-screen smartphones have entered the market, but still the Pc(or a Mac) is still the best thing to get some work done, or to surf the web with Facebook and your mail box open in a new tab. And for that, most people prefer laptops or ultrabooks as they are light, portable and thin. But mostly these laptops have crappy battery life. Most of the powerful laptops have poor battery life of 4-5 hours, and 4 hours only with heavy work. Even the most efficient ones(MacBook Air) have 5-7 hours of battery. So we have come up with a list of the top 10 easy tips to save the battery life of your laptop. Note: Most of the tips are for Windows users. 1. Turn Off Bluetooth & Wifi First of all, turn off all of these connectivity options like Wifi and Bluetooth as they eat the battery more than any other thing. Most of the laptops don't have bluetooth but if your one does, than use it as less as possible, and turn off Wifi whenever you are not using it. This will cause your battery life to improve considerably. 2. Lower The Brightness Lower the brightness of your laptop, as high brightness takes high power becoming a major factor in the short battery life. So keep your brightness only enough to be able watch the screen easily without straining your eyes. 3. Transfrer Programs From CD/DVD To Hard Drive When the program you want to run is located on a CD/DVD, then transfer it to your Laptop's hard drive, because constantly reading a CD/DVD depletes battery life. 4. Don't Multitask Multitasking is an important term which is pretty popular nowadays. But if you want to keep your laptop to keep working a little longer, than you should multitask very less when the battery is low. This will enable you to give you a few more hours before the battery dies out. 5. Tweak With The Power Settings The default power settings of your laptop may not suit you. So you can tweak a little with the power settings to get the most out of it. This tweaking may include choosing whether to allow apps to run while the computer is idle or things like that. 6. Disconnect External Devices Disconnect Any USBs, Fire Wires or other hardware(mouse) connected to the computer. These pieces of hardware suck the battery of your laptop, disabling it to last long enough. So it would be better to disconnect them as soon as your work is done, or you can even try to quit using most of them(like external mouse). 7. Disable Windows Aero You might have liked those fashionable glassy effects at the borders of each window and the start menu, but if you care about battery life more than the look. Then, it is time for you to consider removing them. For removing, simply follow the steps given below,
8. Disable Auto Save Some programs, especially the Microsoft Office, have auto save features enabled in them which allows them to save the content as you type, without asking your permission. This do comes in handy, but like most of the other great features, it also results in loss of battery. So you can just disable the auto save feature in these programs to save your battery power. 9. Close Programs Running In The Background While this might seem to you the true purpose of having a laptop, but if you want to use your laptop as a workstation and not as a media hub, then you have to close all those programs running in the background. For example, iTunes and Desktop search cut down on your battery life. 10. Defrag Your Laptop Frequently And last of all, keep defraging your Laptop frequently. This might seem a lenghty process, but this does saves a lot of battery life. This makes your hard drive efficient, and results in less drainage of battery. |
